How to use MEGAPLAY:
To start the program, just type MEGAPLAY (there are no command
line options, so don't bother trying them out).
When you start the program for the very first time, and no
configuration file is found, you will have to set up some defaults.
How to change defaults is described in part * 3 *.
When you are in a directory where no modules are found, you can use
the arrow keys to move around and the ENTER key to log to a drive or
directory. (hit F1 for help on use of the keys). If you want to quit
just hit ESC and it is over.
When you are searching for modules on your disk, and some modules are
found, you enter the next screen, here you can select the modules.
Use the arrow keys, pageup, pagedown, home, end to move around the list
of modules. Use F1 for help, use F2 to change setup (see part * 3 *) and
use ENTER to play a module (more info in the next part * 2 *).
When you hit ESC, you return to the screen with drives/directories.

When playing a module.

different screens with moving bars.

- Arrow Down = screen with MiniTower
- Arrow Left = screen with MegaBars
- Arrow Right = screen with SideBars (stereo out left/right)
To increase volume press +
To decrease volume press -
Help and a display of the current volumu, output device
and playback speed is availible under the F1 key.
To stop playing hit ESCape.

Setup defaults for playback.
You can change the options for playback by pressing the F2, or
when you delete the MEGAPLAY.CFG file.
You have to make a selection. Select one of the four items in
the configuration by pressing the corresponding key.
Choose 1 to change playback speed
Choose 2 to change the outpur device
Choose 3 to change the volume at which the mod will be played (0..64)
Choose 4 to change the default playscreen
- The output device, where you want to play the music through.
The options for output are:
1 Soundplayer/Covox at LPT1 (Mono)
2 Soundplayer/Covox at LPT2 (Mono)
3 SoundBlaster (Mono)
4 Internal Speaker (Mono)
5 Two Soundplayers LPT1+2 (Stereo)
6 SoundBlaster Pro (Stereo)
7 Stereo SoundPlayer in LPT1 (Stereo)
8 Stereo SoundPlayer in LPT2 (Stereo)
- When you choose the SoundBlaster (or PRO), you have to select
the SB interrupt and the SB base address.
SoundBlaster base address ports:
1. 210h
2. 220h
3. 230h
4. 240h
5. 250h
6. 260h
7. 270h
SoundBlaster IRQ lines:
1. IRQ 3
2. IRQ 5
3. IRQ 7
4. IRQ 10
- You will also have to choose a speed for playback.
There are no real guidelines for this part, you will have to
try out which speed sounds best on your machine.
The playback speeds:
1. 4000 Hz (really slow)
2. 8000 Hz (286)
3. 12000 Hz (286)
4. 16000 Hz (some 286)
5. 20000 Hz (some 286)
6. 24000 Hz (some 386)
7. 28000 Hz (386)
8. 32000 Hz (386)
9. 36000 Hz (Some 386)
C. 44100 Hz (Some 386)
H. 62799 Hz (Some 386/486)
Note: Higher than 20000 Hz works,
but sounds bad on the the internal speaker.
When you have selected a default playback volume, (eg. 60) the
selected module will always be played at that volume, unless you
change the config or hit the + or - keys while playing.
When you change the default playscreen, the module player will
always start with the same playscreen.

More information
1. The supplied files & sizes.
MegaPlay must be supplied with these files:
- MEGAPLAY.EXE (the startup program)
- MEGAPLAY.001 (supporting file #1)
- MEGAPLAY.002 (supporting file #2)
- MEGAPLAY.DOC (this file)
The first three files are required to play modules, when one of them
is missing, you can not play mods. Please contact the person / BBS who
supplied this player, and ask for a complete player.
When you are totally desperate, contact the address below.
The filesizes are: MEGAPLAY.EXE 13488 bytes
MEGAPLAY.001 14241 bytes
MEGAPLAY.002 35715 bytes
2. The configuration file.
This file contains your last saved setup.
The file is called MEGAPLAY.CFG.
Here is a sample config file.
<MEGAPLAY.CFG>
MEGAPLAY version 0.97ß configuration file.
DEVICE = 4
SPEED = 4
SBPORT = 2
SBIRQ = 7
VOLUME = 64
SCREEN = 1
<EOF>
Interested in the values? Very simple, these are the options you
have when you choose a certain default (speed/device/volume/screen).
3. A word about memory.
When you want to play very BIG modules (size 500K +) you better
check the amount of free memory first. The program does NOT check
if there is enough free memory to play the module.
When the mod is too big, the program might hang or the music may
sound very bad!
4. The programming language.
The program is written in Turbo Pascal 6.0
It uses a special modplay soundsystem (see below).
5. About the soundsystem.
The soundsystem used in this program is GOLDPLAY
Programmed by Sourcer of The CodeBlasters (Stein Norheim)
Betatested and Bugfixed by Robban of The SkyHawks (Robert Adolfsson)
6. Copyrights etc.
Not much to say about them, because there are none!
Use and copy this program as much as you want.
7. What is new in version ????
0.97 : - Small improvement in new setup menu
Solved a displacement problem
0.96 : - When playing kick F1 for device / speed info
0.95 : - I decided to kick out all the useless comment lines from
the MEGAPLAY.CFG file, so CFGSTRIP.EXE is no longer needed.
- Added a better setup menu, now you can change a single item
in the config.
- Added two more setup defaults: Volume and Def_PlayScreen.
- These changes let up to an increased filesize ( .... again
who cares ..... )
0.91 : - Solved a little DOS-problem ..
0.90 : - Reduced filesize 1.5Kb to 12.5Kb ( .... who cares .... )
- Problem with directorynames is really solved
- Maximum of 500 modules in a directory (used to be 300...)
0.82 : - Some improvements in the player, reduced total filesize
- Removed an error when reading directorynames (...)
0.80 : - Some improvements in the player, reduced total filesize
- Added CFGSTRIP program, removes all comment lines in config file
0 - 0.79 : development of a player ........
